May 2023 Round-up!

May 30, 2023

Welcome to the May 2023 round-up! We’ve been a little quiet while working behind the scenes on our next game. We are excited to begin to start sharing more about this upcoming project!

Concept art for NPC helper

Main character concept

I’ve been in the deep end of game design and concept as I figure out the main mechanics and feel of this new game. It’s a genre haven’t tackled before but we will be keeping an emotional narrative running throughout so don’t worry too much! We are excited to flex our game design muscles and try something a little different. Keep an eye out on our socials for those first sneak peeks!

It’s also been a busy month in terms of events, I have been working as part of the Limit Break Mentorship committee. I have been helping the events team to plan and execute their events schedule for this year. I’m so happy that both myself and Wyrdren get to be involved in programs and organizations that are committed to seeing the games industry become a welcoming and inclusive space for budding game devs. It’s something we at Wyrdren value as part of our core beliefs.
I was honoured to also be asked to be a part of the panel for the Limit Break Online Ceremony you can find the full video right here posted below for anyone who would like to hear more about the mission and purpose of Limit Break.

We also popped out to Canary Wharf to the Barclays HQ to showcase Spellbound: The Magic Within at their Games Frenzy! This was a lovely chance to show Spellbound now that it’s out and available on Steam. I love heading over to local London events as it’s a fantastic opportunity to network with other game devs and with games’ adjacent industry contacts.

AMAZE Berlin venue

AMAZE Berlin talks

I was also incredibly lucky to be invited along to Germany to attend A.MAZE Berlin 2023, a wonderful games festival that showcases unique and playful interactive experiences! Definitely on my list to try to come back next year too! Big thank you to Wings Fund for asking me along.
The venue was incredible, the sun was shining and I got to sit in on some amazingly insightful talks. I really enjoy travelling to conventions to hear how international developers are tackling the same issues and obstacles we face here in the UK scene.
